Ahead of premiering its first season’s anticipated finale, Egyptian director Mohamed Diab reveals the cast of Jordanian star Saba Mubarak in the last episode of Marvel’s Moon Knight as Ammit, a character inspired by the ancient Egyptian mythology, around which the conflict revolves.
As per Diab’s official Facebook page, Saba shall voice Ammit, devourer of the dead, who is having a bloody conflict with Khonshu, God of the Moon in Ancient Egypt, about the application of justice in today’s world.
Ammit hires a secret group led by Arthur Harrow, played by Ethan Hawke, to serve and help her restore her physical entity. While by Khonshu's side stands the American adventurer Marc Spector, played by Oscar Isaac.
Ammit is a graphic character that will appear in the 6th episode of the series. It is voiced by Saba Mubarak, while Sophia Al-Asir shall play the role and kinetic representation of the character.
The series recently debuted on Disney Plus, boasting a starry cast of Arab stars, including Egyptian actors Khalid Abdillah, Ahmed Dash, and Amr El Kady who played small parts in the series, as well as Egyptian actress May El Calamawy starring with a major role in 3 episodes. The series’ score is composed by Egyptian composer Hesham Nazih, who received wide acclaim for the music.
Also, Egyptian editor Ahmed Hafez edited 2 episodes of the series, praised by Kevin Feige president of Marvel Studios, and costume designer Reem El Adl serves as a costume consultant for the series, the thing that The Hollywood Reporter talked about under the title “How ‘Moon Knight’ Harnessed the Power of Egypt’s Top Creatives — and Even Flew Over a Taxi Driver — to Push for Authenticity and “Avoid the Orientalist Look”.
It’s also worth mentioning that Saba Mubarak has previously starred in international projects, including Sweden action film series Agent Hamilton, and series Al Ijtiyah (The Invasion) (2007) that tackles the Israeli invasion to the Palestinian cities and villages in 2002. The series received an Emmy Award, marking the first Arab work to receive such an award.
In Ramadan 2022, Saba joined two series; Touba alongside Amr Saad, and Suits, written by Mohamed Hefzy and Yasser Abdel Mageed, directed by Essam Abdel Hamid, and produced by Tarek El Ganainy, in which she stars as Farida, who runs one of the largest law firms in Egypt.
The series marks the Egyptian remake of the American legal TV drama series Suits, which ran for nine seasons (2011 – 2019) and was a big success.
